Cheap Eats for Students on a Budget: Listicle

1) Patio Restaurant
1503 W. Taylor Street
The patio has been in business for almost 70 years offering the cheapest Italian beef and hot dogs in the, area according to their friendly staff. It is a family owned business famous around University village. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, however its friendly employees still took the time to answer a couple questions and even agreed to take a picture for the listicle.

2) Hana Sushi
1311 w. Taylor
Hana Sushi offers a combination of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese cuisine. A great variety in a small yet comfortable atmosphere. The owner David, migrated from China but is knowledgeable in a variety of international cuisines. The restaurant has been running for 15 years and it is popular amongst UIC students. Their smoothies are made from real fruit and not sweet fruit extracts according to David.

3) Tbaar

1453 Taylor St.
From Saturday through Sunday if you buy jasmine green tea, lemon black tea, bubble milk green tea, or an “amazing” bubble milk tea you get the second one free. From Monday through Friday you can buy one of the previously mentioned drinks and get the second one half off ! This bubble tea spot has been open for 6 months and offers a wide variety of flavored juices, smoothies, and iced coffee. Tbaar offers healthy mixed options such as jasmine green tea, lemon honey, green apple green tea, mango green tea, and passion fruit. The milk tea is also available with options such as bubble milk with black tea, honeydew milk tea, taro milk tea, coconut milk tea amongst the favorites. This location also offers ice matcha latte and matcha smoothies. For the fresh fruit milkshakes, Tbaar offers options such as watermelon, papaya, strawberry-banana, and fresh avocado. Add any toppings including aloe, mixed jelly, or tapioca. When you order any large sized smoothie you get free toppings.

4) Polk Street Pub
548 W. Polk St.
Polk Street Pub offers live music, drinks, and delicious food. If you’re in the mood for a burger, stop by for ½ price killer burgers made from angus beef on Mondays and Saturdays. If you’re not a meat eater, Polk Street Pub offers veggie burgers for half the price as well. On Tuesdays, the Pub offers ½ price appetizers and .25 cent wings on Wednesdays. Enjoy a cheap meal while enjoying some live music or enjoying the nice weather on their patio.

5)De Pasada
1517 W. Taylor St.

You only need $10 to buy yourself a meal in this Mexican spot. On top of that, if you show a valid school ID you get a 10% discount. De Pasada offers complimentary chips and salsa as well when you dine in. This family owned restaurant is located in the University Village area. Literally, every item on the menu is under ten dollars and the food is delicious. Their most popular item on the menu is the “Super Burrito”, staek, lettuce, tomatoe, beans, and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla.

6)Taylor Made Pizza

1220 W. Taylor St.

Stop in and experience a taste of Italy at Taylor Made Pizza. This restaurants helps students save by offering a 10% discount when you show a valid school ID. They are now serving regional pizzas and pastas from regions of Rome, Naples, Calabria and Sicily. Their popular menu items include thin crust pizza, hot wings, and mozzarella sticks. You do not have to limit yourself to a slice of pizza. This restaurant offers the Taylor made pasta which comes with  any pasta and your choice of any homemade sauce.
