Roscoe’s is known in Chicago for being one of the best gay bars. This is located in the center of Boystown and it has a multifaceted bar, restaurant, and nightclub space. For students who go to UIC, this is easy to get to by taking the Halsted bus north. Every night has a special and they sell pitchers for $15, the Long Island pitcher is recommended

  1. Ph.D Pub

Known as being one of the closest bars to UIC, Ph.D Pub is a prime location to go year round. They have a patio right outside of the pub where people are able to have drinks and catch up. Their beer menu is long which is always a plus. One of the highlights is that they allow people to bring their own food! They also have daily specials which includes shots for $4.

3.         Skylark

Skylark is known for having neat and classic Chicago photos and paintings hanging on the walls. A favorite for many customers is the $5 basket full of tater tots and fries. Their food menu is said to be amongst the best in terms of bar food as well. There is a large selection of beer and it ranges from $2-$6. This location is more on the chill side with dim lighting and a juke box to set the mood for the night.

4.         Polk Street Pub

If you are looking for a place to get drunk and have a cheap meal after, Polk Street Pub is the place for you. Polk Street Pub has a large menu and offers daily specials which include drinks and food. There is no denying that this place is a bar with a feel good vibe as well as great customer service.

  1. Hawkeye’s Bar & Grill

Another bar that is close to UIC is Hawkeye’s Bar & Grill which is also a sports bar. If you are looking for a place that offers great beer, you have found the place. A Monday special that is very impressive are the $.35 wing special. They also have an extensive food menu which means you can just stop by to get lunch and dinner as well. This place was crowded Monday night when I went which says a lot about the service that it provides.

  1. Little Joe’s Circle Lounge

Little Joe’s is an economic place that has great vibes and great prices! This is a dive bar which is the perfect place for University students. If you have nothing to do on a Wednesday night, there is a karaoke night! PBR pitchers are recommended as they are only $6!

7.         Twisted Cantina

When in Pilsen, this is place is a must! The Twisted Cantina has a large variety of drinks which include cocktails, margaritas, beers, and wines. The drinks are made with fresh ingredients and they make sure to use good amounts of alcohol. The ambience of this place is great as they show music videos in the background and have a DJ for those nights that you feel like dancing!

8.         The Barrel

The Barrel offers a great variety of beer selections, both taps and bottled beers. This bar specializes in serving only local brews which is great for people who want to try new things. This page lists the Barrel’s beer menu which is awesome if you want to choose a beer before you arrive. Jazz fans would also enjoy the band that comes in to play during the week!

9.         Punch House

If you want a place to go and enjoy good music, good vibes, and good drinks, Punch House is the place to go. The music ranges from funk, R‘n’B, house flavor, and other timeless music. A unique feature of Punch House is that it is located in the basement of a restaurant with a lot of vintage décor. If you are looking for something to eat, the restaurant above serves downstairs and it is delicious! There is a food menu as well as drink menu listed on their website which comes in handy if you want to get there prepared.

10.   Simone’s

Last, but definitely not least, Simone’s. This location offers amazing drinks and great food. When you walk into the bar, you notice the retro décor which includes having recycled video game and machine parts throughout the place. They have a Dj and also offer karaoke night which is every drunk person’s dream. The small location makes the place feel intimate and is a prime place to hang with friends and mingle. The food here is also amongst the best bar food I have had and the menu also lists the specials of the day.
